The Pear Tree | درخت گلابی
Mahmoud (Homayoun Ershadi) is unable to continue writing the book he is presently working on due to a case of writer’s block. He decides to take a vacation from his daily routine and plans to travel to his family’s rural estate north of Tehran. He also intends to finish his novel during this trip. Nematollah Gorji, the estate’s elderly gardener, draws Mahmoud’s attention to the old pear tree located behind the estate while Mahmoud is on the property. Upon seeing the Pear Tree, Mahmoud reflects on his past: his crush on his 14-year-old female cousin, M (Golshifteh Farahani), his adolescent aspirations, and how they have changed over time. There, he begins to reflect on his existence, comparing it to a fruitless pear tree in his yard. The remainder of the film is devoted to Mahmoud’s memories of his past.
