Bemani (Masoumeh Bakhshi), an adolescent girl forced to marry a sleazy landlord, sets herself on fire on her wedding night. Madina (Neda Aghayi), who has been abandoned by her junkie husband, will be beheaded for this “shame” by her brothers. Nasim (Shadi Heydari), a promising medical student whose father forbids her ongoing studies, is forced to marry an elderly man of no means as form of “escape.” Each woman faces oppression and degradation in the strict confines of Islamic Iran.
