Studies in this area arein theirinfancy, and this genre of filmis not well recognized in Iran. The development of this cinema in Iran was hampered by Islamic laws and limitations imposed by the Islamic Republic. The usual human connections and sexualities in Iran are, however, challenged in a number of postrevolutionary Iranian movies. In order to convey same-sex impulses and sexual ambiguity in either hidden or overt ways, Iranian filmmakers, especially those based outside of Iran, have plenty of latitude to produce such films.
