Nīmah-yi Pinhān

Nīmah-yi Pinhān (Half Hidden; 2001) is a film written and directed by Tahmineh Milani (Tahmīnih Mīlānī), and based on Farīdih Gulbū’s novel titled Baʻd az ʻishq (After Love). The main character in the movie is Farishtih (Nīkī Karīmī), a woman who gives her diary to her civil servant husband Khusraw (Ātīlā Pisyānī). The journal reveals to Khusraw that Farishtih was drawn to leftist political organizations as a student in 1979. Meanwhile, Farishtih joins an intellectual circle formed by Rūzbih Jāvīd (Muhammad Nīkbīn), the editor of a literary journal. Her relationship with Rūzbih blossoms into a romantic one, but she learns that he has a wife. Despite a dire political situation, Farishtih turns down Jāvīd’s proposal to marry him and leave Iran. Seventeen years later, notwithstanding the fact that her life has changed dramatically, she encounters him again during a funeral.
